Mira was born on, and lived out her childhood, on Kenov III. Her parents are unkown, what settlement she comes from is also unknown. What is known is that at the age of fifteen she was conscripted into Imperial Guard service during the rush to form units to stave off a nearby Splinter Fleet. Mira would spend the next twenty-one years in the Imperial Guard, rotated through various war zones throughout the Calixis sector, and when need arose, beyond.
In her last year of service her regiment was passing through a Naval resupply station when the colonel was approached by a servant of the Inquisition. The Regiment, under orders from people who weren’t supposed to exist, was ordered down to the quarantined planet of Mara to find and secure an artifact of great power. Unsurprisingly, when the regiment touched down on the planet and began to scour the area Mira’s company came across the wreckage of a ship.
After hours of what seemed like fruitless searching the company’s psyker screamed in pain, from his body burst seven horrifying creatures that sent entire platoons running in fear. At random, people she’d known for two decades began to exhibit the same symptoms when exposed to pain, only for more20of the creatures to burst from their bodies.
Mira survived the battle by running back to the shuttle, alone and covered in gore. Anyone who wasn’t already aboard was left behind as the creatures began to close with great bounding leaps across the snow and ice. Her survival and claims of killing one of the adult Psychneunen brought her attention by the Inquisition the year following her release from a mental institution.
She was always a superstitious woman. Believing that psykers needed to be watched for signs of corruption, and that one had to remain ever-vigilant near them. The ordeal on Mara however, changed that outlook to one of outright hatred. She spent the last two years of freedom as a mercenary when she was found and recruited by the Inquisition. Not only for her muscle, but because hatred and experience such as hers would be useful in the days to come.
Thought begets Heresy; Heresy begets Retribution
